Tangem Pay Review | Self-Custody Crypto Visa Card (USDC on Polygon)
How Tangem Pay works
Tangem Pay is a non-custodial payment account built into the Tangem Wallet app that lets you spend crypto in everyday life without giving up control of your keys.
Rather than converting assets to fiat on an exchange first, you fund a spendable account with stablecoins (currently USDC on the Polygon network).
When you use the virtual Visa card, the equivalent amount of USDC is automatically deducted on-chain and settled with the merchant in USD through Visa’s payment network.
Your funds remain on the blockchain under your control until the moment of purchase.
At launch, Tangem Pay issues a virtual Visa card you can use online or in-store. In the future, physical cards will become available.
Your Crypto. Your Card. Your Control.
Stop relying on exchanges to spend your assets. With Tangem Pay, load USDC and pay anywhere Visa is accepted while staying fully self-custodied.
Integrations

Visa network – Tangem Pay is a Visa card, so you can pay anywhere Visa is accepted, including through contactless wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Polygon (USDC) – The card uses USDC on the Polygon blockchain for low-fee, fast on-chain spending.
KYC & compliance partners – Identity verification is handled by partners like Sumsub, while the card program runs with regulated entities (e.g., Third National as the Visa issuer and Paera LLC for the payment infrastructure).
This mix lets Tangem combine self-custody and real-world payments without forcing you to hand assets to intermediaries.
Features of Tangem Pay
Virtual Visa card
You get a prepaid Visa card inside the Tangem Wallet, ready for online and physical merchant use.
Direct on-chain spending
Deposit USDC and spend directly from the blockchain. There’s no need to convert assets separately before spending.
Smart contract wallet
Your spendable balance is held in a smart contract you control. You can withdraw unused USDC back to your main wallet at any time.
Wide acceptance
Use it wherever Visa is accepted, including contactless mobile wallets, globally (subject to regional availability).
No monthly or transaction fees
There are no platform fees for Tangem Pay itself; you’ll still pay normal network gas fees and Visa FX fees for payments in non-USD currencies.
Spending limits & controls
The account has load and spending limits that scale with verification level, and unused funds can be moved back to your wallet.
Turn Stablecoins Into Everyday Freedom.
From online shopping to contactless payments, spend USDC directly from the blockchain and withdraw unused funds anytime. No lockups. No surrendering custody.
Benefits of using Tangem Pay

Self-custody with real-world use
You keep control of your keys and assets until you spend them, which is rare for crypto payment cards.
No need for third-party conversions
Spend USDC directly and let the system handle conversion at checkout.
Convenience
Works like a normal Visa card, including Apple/Google Pay support.
Flexibility
Withdraw unused funds at any time; no lock-in period.
Global merchant access
Use it worldwide, subject to where the service is active.
Tangem Pay doesn’t offer traditional rewards (like cashback or miles) at launch.
The focus is on utility and security rather than perks, although future features like referral bonuses and yield options on the balance are planned.
