Our Review Methodology – ECN Execution Brokers Scores for 2026
ECN Execution helps traders quickly see which brokers are truly built for fair, fast, and professional trading.
At ECN Execution, we believe the term “ECN” is often misused as a marketing label.
To protect our readers, we employ a rigorous, data-driven auditing process led by Kevin George.
Our scores are not influenced by broker partnerships; they are earned through a transparent 1 – 10 point framework..
The ECN Broker Review Methodology 2026.
The Five Pillars of Execution Quality
We apply a weighted scoring system to five critical performance pillars.
High-impact factors, such as regulatory standing and execution speed, carry double weight in our final calculation.
- Trust & Regulation. We measure the strength and number of licences, client protections, and overall reputation.
- Execution Model & Speed. We verify whether the broker is genuinely ECN/non‑dealing‑desk, plus fill quality and latency.
- Funding & Withdrawals. We verify the methods, processing speed, transparency, and costs.
- Trading platforms. We check the availability of MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView and pro‑grade tools advertised.
- Costs & Conditions. We test spreads, commissions, swaps, leverage, and support for strategies like scalping and algos.
By weighting these factors more heavily than cosmetic features, ECN Execution provides a score that reflects real trading quality rather than just good branding. Visit Our Best ECN Brokers
1 – 10 Point Score Mechanism
- Every broker receives an overall score from 1 to 10.
- The score combines several categories so traders can quickly compare brokers.
Our Methodology weighting table
| Pillar | Weight | Key Metric |
| Trust | 30% | Verified Tier-1 License |
| Execution | 25% | Avg. Latency < 30ms |
| Funding | 10% | Withdrawal processed < 24hrs |
| Spreads & Costs | 25% | Raw Spread + Commission |
| Platforms, Tools & support | 10% | Trading platform options, Live Chat Response < 2 mins |
1. Trust & Regulation – Regulatory Audit & Capital Security
- Checks if the broker is licensed by strong, well‑known regulators.
- Multiple top‑tier regulators and strong client protections (segregated funds, negative balance protection, compensation schemes) score higher.
- Unregulated brokers are not listed in ECN Execution as Trust is a defining factor.
- We don’t just list licenses; we verify them.
- Manual Verification: Every broker’s license number is cross-referenced against official databases (FCA, ASIC, CySEC, etc.) to ensure it is “Active” and covers “Dealing as Agent.”
- Client Protection: We award points for negative balance protection, segregated accounts at Tier-1 banks, and participation in compensation schemes (e.g., FSCS).
- Risk Warning: Unregulated or offshore entities are automatically capped at a maximum score of 3.0, regardless of performance.
2. Execution Model & Speed – The “Real ECN” Verification (Execution & Latency)
This is the core of our brand. We test for genuine Non-Dealing Desk (NDD) environments.
- Verifies if the broker offers a real ECN / non‑dealing‑desk model, not a pure market maker setup.
- Evaluates execution speed, stability, and slippage, especially for scalpers and algorithmic traders.
- Measure leverage, allowed strategies (hedging, scalping, algos), and range of tradable markets.
- Live Testing: We open live accounts and use MT4/MT5 scripts to measure execution latency (the time from “order sent” to “order filled”).
- Slippage Monitoring: We monitor fill quality during high-liquidity periods to identify brokers with excessive positive or negative slippage.
- Strategy Support: A perfect score in this category requires unrestricted support for HFT (High-Frequency Trading), scalping, and algorithmic Expert Advisors (EAs).
3. Funding, withdrawals – 3. Financial Logistics (Funding & Withdrawals)
A broker is only as good as its ability to return your capital.
- Reviews how easy it is to deposit and withdraw (methods, currencies, processing times).
- Penalises high or hidden fees and rewards fast, low‑cost, reliable payments.
- Velocity of Capital: We track the time from a withdrawal request to the funds hitting a third-party account.
- Fee Transparency: We penalize brokers that hide “internal handling fees” behind standard blockchain or bank wire costs.
- Ease of Access: Points are awarded for diverse funding rails, including instant localized transfers and major e-wallets.
4. Platforms, tools & support – Infrastructure, Tooling & Technical Support
- Scores the quality and choice of platforms (MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView, web and mobile).
- Rewards brokers that support VPS, copy trading and useful trader tools.
- Checks customer support (languages, channels, hours, and how helpful responses are).
- Platform Diversity: We evaluate the stability of MT4, MT5, cTrader, and TradingView integrations.
- Trader Ecosystem: We look for value-adds like free VPS for high-volume traders, FIX API access, and advanced depth-of-market (DOM) tools.
- Support Latency: Our team “stress tests” live chat and email support with complex technical queries to measure response time and accuracy.
5. Costs & Conditions – Cost Transparency (Spreads & Commissions)
We calculate the Total Cost of Trade (TCoT).
- Includes trading costs such as spreads, commissions, and swaps.
- Spreads, commissions, swaps, leverage, and support for strategies like scalping and algos.
- Raw Spread Analysis: We analyze the consistency of spreads on the EUR/USD and Gold (XAU/USD) during the London/New York overlap.
- Commission Structures: We favor “Raw” accounts with transparent per-lot commissions over “Standard” accounts with marked-up spreads.
How the final score is built
- The result is normalised back to a simple 1–10 broker score that balances safety, fairness, and performance.
- Each area gets a sub‑score.
- High‑importance factors are multiplied by 2 before combining everything.
Each sub-category is scored from 1 to 10. We then apply our weighted average formula:
Trust 30% + Execution 25% + Funding 10% + Spreads & Costs 25% + Platforms, Tools & support 10%
This ensures that a broker cannot “buy” a high score through a flashy platform if their regulatory status or execution speed is sub-par.
Editorial Disclosure: While ECN Execution may receive commissions from some listed brokers, these do not influence our scoring. Our “Experience” and “Expertise” mandates require us to report raw data, even if it results in a low score for a partner broker.
This methodology was developed by The Founder of ECN Execution, Kevin George, traders and partners, leveraging 15 years of institutional and retail trading experience.
Our Execution score is based on a minimum of 30 trades placed on a live ECN trading accounts during the London/New York overlap time session. We measure the average latency using and note brokers where slippage exceeds 0.5 pips on major pairs.
Our scoring techniques and methodology is independent. We look to verify the execution and quality of trades as our top priority. The affiliate commissions we earn from a referred trader do not impact a our score.
Some well known ECN brokers do not pass our approvals and we have therefore decided not to be listed.
