MT5 ECN Brokers: What Actually Matters
I have spent a lot of time comparing forex brokers, trading conditions and the numbers behind execution. One thing becomes obvious pretty quickly: the word ECN doesn’t tell you nearly enough.
Almost every broker wants to sound fast. Everyone talks about deep liquidity, institutional pricing and spreads from 0.0 pips.
Fine.
But when you are actually trading, particularly scalping or running an EA, you don’t trade the marketing claim. You trade the fill.
That is why I look at MT5 ECN brokers differently.
The first thing I compare is the real cost per trade. A 0.0 pip spread means very little if the commission is expensive or the actual spread spends most of the session at 0.5 pips. I want to see the spread, commission and slippage together.
Then there is execution.
A broker can advertise 10ms execution, but what matters to me is what happens repeatedly across hundreds of orders. Are fills close to the requested price? How often does negative slippage occur? What happens when volatility suddenly increases?
Those are the numbers I care about.
From the brokers I have compared, FP Markets, Fusion Markets, IC Markets and Global Prime are four names I would put on the shortlist for MT5 traders.
FP Markets is particularly interesting for its Raw pricing and MT5 environment. Fusion Markets stands out when trading cost is the priority. IC Markets has built a strong reputation with active and algorithmic traders. Global Prime gets my attention because of its focus on execution and liquidity rather than simply selling the lowest headline spread.
I also wouldn’t choose an ECN broker based purely on a 0.0 pip screenshot.
Your broker is part of your trading strategy.
If you trade 50 lots a month, small differences may not matter much.
If you’re trading hundreds or thousands of lots, they absolutely do.
That is where broker selection becomes a numbers game, not a popularity contest.
